Holiday Card Project Stamp by Heidi

Thanks for visiting my page! I'm not as active as an artist as I used to be. I need to kick my behind into gear again about it. But, I still do a lot of photographs, mostly of birds and landscapes. As you can see, waterfowl is one of my favorite subjects, especially ducklings. I consider myself a "duckling specialist". I also love horse art, so you will see a lot of those in my favorites.

My favorite bird is the killdeer, but I also love curlews, especially after reading "Last of the Curlews" by Fred Bodsworth. I love anything that has an Eskimo curlew on it, but the more realistic it is, the better. But, I also love impressionist work, too.

Besides photography, I work almost strictly in colored pencil and acrylic paint. I am open to other mediums.

All my work is "all rights reserved" and are not to be used or copied without permission. Please contact me if you would like to use them on your site, etc. It's OK to use the social media buttons Deviantart provides, though. Please ask before using them any other way.

I could use some points. If you want to send any my way, here's the link. :)

Interests
I've been so busy with work both my online article/product description writing and my wage job that I've had very little time to do my artwork other than photography. However, that doesn't mean I am not doing artwork! I work for a library and, lately, all of us have been busy planning and making displays. This often means research, designing and sometimes creating our own elements to put on these displays. Sometimes, I make up my own theme, other times I've used themes I've seen on other libraries' bulletin boards. I had one really nice display with birds that live around the library and all those birds were drawn by hand by me. That one was taken down, though, so I don't have my own picture of it. I will try to get a picture of one of my displays and post it here if I can.

This is just a short note about my dislike of the way that group photos and artwork are displayed. While I like that there's more information at a glance, I don't like that I have to scroll down to see a lot of them at once. Usually, I look at the entire page of photos, then click on the ones I want to see more about. The way it is now, it's going to take me much longer to get through all of my notices
Young Brant
I think this might be the same young brant on which I based my painting on. He has a unique look to his primary feathers, which is why I think it's him. He looks much better now, but his other side (not shown) is still fairly raggedy. He's also starting to get a collar, too.

First Migration
This is the first painting I've done in a long time. I used a reference photo from a trip to the San Diego Salt Works to make this scene. A rough-looking juvenile Brant goose is probably making her first migration a little earlier than she should. I think that's either dad or mom in the background. These geese aren't very big as you can see by the size of the plover and sandpipers around them. It's acrylic on canvas paper.
